Two Concord Students Receive Scholarships from the West Virginia Society of CPAs

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Greenbrier Valley/Southern Chapter of the WV Society of CPAs hosted a student night on September 25, 2023, at Pasquale’s Italian Restaurant in Beckley, WV. The event gave students a chance to meet local CPAs about potential job opportunities, speak with board members from the WV Society of CPAs, hear how the industry and the CPA examination are changing, and to become a student member of the society for free. Two of our students received accounting scholarships from the WV Society of CPAs this year, Cailyn Butler and Amberlie Wilson.

In addition, fifteen Concord students from the Department of Business were sponsored to become members of the West Virginia Society of CPAs during the Fall 2023 semester. Zack Statler, Market President of United Bank South Market, and Corey Browning (member of Concord’s Business Advisory Council) Financial Advisor, United Brokerage Services, partnered with faculty member Logan Browning of the Department of Business to provide memberships to Concord students who are considering careers in accounting. The memberships offer students many benefits including access to awards and scholarships given by the Society, discounts on CPA exam study materials, networking opportunities with professionals and other students throughout the state, and access to an annual recruiting event where students can find internships and job opportunities throughout West Virginia.

Concord University had a stellar representation at the September chapter meeting. Those in attendance included (from left to right) Professor Shelly Stump, Alex Watty, Ethan Cutlip, Zach Bolen, Zach Setliff, Colin Wiley, Brayden Cline, Tori Parks, Dylan Browning, Amberlie Wilson, Amber Williams, Trinity Bennett, Bethany Burks, Cailyn Butler, and Dr. Logan Browning.
