Slow day for films to be released last week, but that does not mean it was not a good week for films releasing during this period. One of those films being The Black Book which was released on September 22nd, 2023. The movie can be viewed on Netflix and has a runtime of 2 hours and 4 minutes. The Black Book is considered a Nollywood film which means that this film was done in Nigeria. When asked about the importance of Nollywood films, Ross Cline of the student body had this to say.
“I believe it’s important to experience different kinds of films in order to gain knowledge about cultures.”

The story of the film is about a father figure (who is played by Richard Mofe- Damijo) who is trying to avenge the death of his son as well as clear his name from the corrupt police. This film uses fiction to tell a real-life story of how Nigeria has a severe corruption problem within the law enforcement community. This has been reported several types, but The Black Book shows how far the police of Nigeria would go from framing innocent people to assaulting people under their watch and then arresting them. The movie also uses the language of Hausa, which was used widely in Nigeria before English language.
The Black Book was an action thriller film that pleased critics and audiences alike. Movies are meant to help entertain the viewer as well as tell a captivating story that can hook anyone. Concord University students use movies as one of many means of saving energy for studying and or any other classwork. When asked about the importance of studying when compared to watching a movie, concord students had this to say.
“As a student it can be draining to study every day, so I like to make sure to get in a movie every now and again to help ease my energy”
