Sydney Phipps Traveling to Italy to Represent USA at 2022 World Archery 3D Championship

Sydney Phipps, a molecular biology major at Concord University and award-winning archer, will travel to Terni, Italy in September to represent the United States at the 2022 World Archery 3D Championships.

“I am very excited and humbled to have the opportunity to represent my country on such a large stage,”

Sydney Phipps

Phipps is part of a 24-person team comprised of archers from across the country. She tried out at the U.S. 3D Team Trial in London, Kentucky on June 2, finishing in the top three of the women’s barebow division. This is her first time competing on Team USA, but competition is nothing new to Sydney Phipps.

The Peterstown, West Virginia native got into competitive archery through the National Archery in the Schools Program when she was in the fourth grade. She began competing with the school team the next year and continued to compete until her sophomore year of high school.

“I stopped competing in NASP to compete in traditional and barebow archery full time. I have won the IBO National Triple Crown twice and the IBO shooter of the year twice.”

Phipps is also an eight-time International Bowhunters Organization (IBO) world champion. She won the IBO first leg of the triple crown several times, in addition to other local and state level tournaments in the 3-D discipline. Now, Phipps is looking at tournaments as preparation for the next level.

“The entire team and I are practicing as much as possible and attending as many tournaments as possible to prepare properly to represent the United States the way it deserves to be represented.”
