Concord Women’s Basketball junior guard Nakaila Gray is no stranger to adversity.
In October 2020, at the beginning of her sophomore season, Gray was diagnosed with a blood clot in her lung. After many tests, it was shown that these clots were caused because of COVID. After this news, she was told she would have to sit out for six months while on blood thinners.
COVID has affected so many athletes, and not only athletes. It has been shown to have long term effects on the heart and lungs.
Gray was able to return for the 2021-2022 season to begin all post season workouts. Anxious to return to campus for her junior season, she suffered another setback. She broke her wrist right before season in October and couldn’t play her first several games.
After weeks of healing, Gray has now returned to the court and is getting back into the swing of things. She says her major thing to remember is:
“Never give up and keep believing in yourself.”

This is a good life lesson whether it goes with sports, or achieving your goals in the classroom.
