ATHENS, W.Va. – Anthony Tang, Carillonneur at Wake Forest University, will perform in concert on Concord University’s Marsh Memorial Carillon on Sunday, Aug. 29th at 3:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the music from either the lawn in front of Marsh Hall or under the covered walkway at University Point. No tickets are required and the event is free to the Concord campus community and the general public.
The program will consist of tunes ranging from Broadway to the big screen, the east coast to the west coast, and all around the world. Tang will perform works by Louis Armstrong, Irving Berlin, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Denver, and many more!
In addition to serving as Carillonneur at Wake Forest University, Anthony Tang is the Director of Strategic Development. He holds degrees from Wake Forest University and Northeastern University.
This will be the first of three carillon concerts planned for the upcoming academic year on “The Campus Beautiful.” Dr. Jacob Womack, who is Concord University’s Dr. Joseph F. Marsh Endowed Professor of Music, will be performing in early October. Concord alum Jesse Ratcliffe, Music Director and Organist at Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene, Texas, is scheduled to perform in May.
Concord University houses West Virginia’s only true carillon, a 48-bell instrument located on top of Marsh Hall. Funding for the instrument and establishment of a carillon and organ endowment was provided by former Concord President, Dr. Joseph F. Marsh.
