ATHENS, W.Va. – Representatives from Concord University are participating in WV Law Enforcement Career Days scheduled for Saturday, April 17th, 2021 in South Charleston and Saturday, May 15th, 2021 in Huntington.

The April 17th event will be held at BridgeValley Community & Technical College from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Career Day on May 15th is taking place at Mountwest Community & Technical College from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. These events are sponsored by the FBI Pittsburgh Division, Charleston and Huntington Resident Agencies.

Concord is among the state’s colleges and universities showcasing their educational programming in the criminal justice field at the events. High school and college aged students who attend will have an opportunity to learn about these programs and speak with admissions personnel. Professionals representing local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies will also be available to speak with attendees about careers in criminal justice.

Criminology Instructor Lori Pace will have a Concord University booth with Admissions Counselor Allen Smith on April 17th in South Charleston and with Admissions Counselor Amy Walker in Huntington May 15th to highlight Concord’s Sociology major with Criminology emphasis and Criminology minor.

“This degree is providing paths to employment for our graduates, and I am seeing it pay off in many ways for the students. The nature of law enforcement is changing, and agencies are seeking a more diverse candidate pool. Contemporary law enforcement is dealing with issues of violent offenders, addiction, accountability structures, training, and reform.”

Lori Pace

“The students in Concord’s Sociology major with the Criminology emphasis are getting historical, theoretical, and practical knowledge to take into those careers as well as others in the criminal justice system. It is exciting to have these events which collect agencies, organizations, and educational programs in one place for students,” she said.
