ATHENS, W.Va. – With the generous support of donors, the 2020 Concord University Day of Giving not only met, but exceeded its goal. The campaign, earmarked for the Concord University Foundation’s Annual Fund, focused on raising $50,000 in 24 hours, and ran from 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24th to 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25th.
This year’s event kept pace with the 2019 Day of Giving in surpassing the goal set by organizers. Last year, CU alumni and friends were called upon to raise $24,000 in 24 hours. For 2020, the bar was raised to the $50,000 mark.
The CU Annual Fund supports scholarships, campus improvements and other University related projects.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support shown by the Mountain Lion community for Day of Giving. This philanthropic effort symbolizes a movement of unity and support for the university, a vision that will continue to impact generations of students to come.”
Blake Farmer, Manager of University Advancement
In a time when funding has been reduced due to state budget cuts, fundraising is more important than ever for schools like Concord University. Farmer spearheaded Day of Giving and enlisted students to assist in contacting donors. The university wanted an event that anyone could participate in and that allowed the entire Mountain Lion community to come together in an atmosphere of “paying it back” to the university that provided so many of its donors with the foundation for becoming successful alumni.
