Concord University Announces its Beckley-Raleigh County Foundation Dinner Guest Speaker

ATHENS, W.Va. – Guests attending the 2020 Concord University Beckley-Raleigh County Foundation Dinner will have the opportunity to hear the inspirational survival story of J.R. Martinez.

A burn survivor Army veteran, actor, New York Times best-selling author, and winner of Dancing with the Stars, Martinez will join guests live via Zoom on November 5th to not only share his journey, but answer audience questions.

Martinez’s desire to inspire others began long before his book Full of Heart: My Story of Survival, Strength and Spirit hit the best seller list, before his 2011 victory on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and before his three year full-time acting career playing a veteran on the television show All My Children. His first inspirational talk took place in a recovery ward with a fellow burn patient.

Since that initial encounter, J.R. Martinez has traveled the world speaking with troops, as well as non-profits, universities, and a number of Fortune 500 companies. Concord University is proud to be among his virtual stops this year.

The Beckley-Raleigh County Foundation Dinner will take place in the Bright Ballroom at The Resort at Glade Springs on November 5th. The reception will begin at 5 pm, dinner will be served at 7 pm, and Martinez will virtually join guests live at 8 pm. Social distancing protocol will be followed, and guests are asked to wear masks while they are not eating.

Proceeds from this event contribute to the Foundation’s annual fund, which supports student scholarships and campus improvement projects. To purchase your ticket, or to become a sponsor, log onto the university website at www.concord.edu/beckleydinner.
