ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University is hosting the symposium “The Battle Of Shakespeare’s Sexes” on Monday, Nov. 11th from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in University Point’s Pais Fellowship Hall.
This free event will feature performances by professional stage actors Christiana Clark and Jeremy Gallardo of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. They will present brief Shakespeare excerpts (mostly from comedies), followed by moderated discussion with the audience. The focus is on gender roles, communication between the sexes, women’s rights and related matters in Shakespeare as compared and contrasted with modern views. This presentation is part of a tour to eight West Virginia schools and public venues.
“This event presents a rare opportunity to observe classically trained performers of Shakespeare,”
Dr. Gabriel Rieger, Concord Associate Professor
Rieger, who is helping to moderate the symposium, said the activity “should be both fun and educational.”
The general public is invited to join the Concord campus community in attending at no charge. The symposium is being presented with support from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
For additional information please contact Dr. Gabriel Rieger at grieger@concord.edu or 304-384-5251.

Persons with disabilities should contact Nancy Ellison, 1-304-384-6086 or 1-800-344-6679 extension 6086 if special assistance is required for access to an event scheduled by the University on campus.
