ATHENS, W.Va. – President Jerry Beasley welcomed 200 guests to the first annual Concord College Community Thanksgiving Feast, Thursday, November 16th, 2000.

“About three months ago, students met for a picnic and discussed their role in our community. Laura Benjamin suggested we do something that would be a gift to the community from Concord’s students and the Thanksgiving Feast was born!”

Senior citizens from Athens and surrounding communities were invited to enjoy an early Thanksgiving dinner at the College.

Beasley thanked both Laura Benjamin and Scott Maxwell, president of the Student Government Association for organizing the event. Classical guitarist and Concord student Chris Cavendish entertained guests with a wide variety of musical selections. Others who helped with the event included: Michael Curry, Debbie Curry, Nancy Ellison, Debbie Weiss, ARAMARK and the Concord College Foundation. After dinner, Laura Benjamin spoke of faith to friends for life and love and an appreciation of Concord.
