ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord College is welcoming Halima Addou to Athens, W.Va. Wednesday, November 1st, 2000. Addou was forced to leave her native land of Algeria due to the violence of Islamic fundamentalist extremists.
Addou was a television personality in her homeland where she used her television talk show to reveal cruelties to human and civil rights, to threaten governmental propaganda, and to advocate religious and political open-mindedness. Addou’s outspoken views led to her banishment from Algeria. She has since been granted permission to live in the United States because she would have been murdered in her own country. Addou’s many experiences and abilities have established her as an accomplished individual, and she bears a powerful witness to a very real tragedy that is too often ignored by the mainstream media.
Addou will be speaking Wednesday, November 1st, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center Main Auditorium. Admission is free to the general public. For more information please call 1-304-384-5101.
