ATHENS, W.Va. – Mrs. Georgia Kelley will be the Grand Marshal for Concord College’s homecoming parade. The parade will begin in front of the Methodist Church on Vermillion Street, Thursday, October 12th at 6:00 p.m.
Kelley coached women’s sports for 33 years and worked under five presidents while at Concord. She started women’s sports at Concord and coached free-of-charge in the early years because “no one thought women’s sports would ever go anywhere.”
“I am honored to be chosen as Grand Marshal,” stated Kelley. “Concord has chosen some very distinguished people as their Grand Marshal and I am privileged to be in their company. Now that I am retired, I enjoy volunteering for the College. I help update addresses for our alumni and place calls for their annual phonathon. I have a great time calling former students and athletes!”

Alumni Banquet Entertainment
Concord College’s Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honorary Society will present a sample of scenes, monologues and readings in celebration of The Theatre: The Performers and The Audience for the annual alumni dinner on Friday, October 13 at 5:00 p.m. Cost for the alumni banquet is $15.00.
The program will be a light-hearted and affectionate look at actors and their audiences. Scenes, monologues and readings from a variety of historical periods will be performed by a small company of players in a fairly informal context; some with small set-pieces, perhaps, or a prop or two.
“We are pleased to be able to share something of our passion for the theatre. We hope that the audience enjoys our efforts and leaves the ballroom with something to think about…especially if they are, as we hope, walking over to see our play, Crimes of the Heart!”
Dr. James Lile, Associate Professor of Communication Arts and Director of Theatre
Crimes of the Heart
The College’s theatre is presenting Crimes of the Heart, a comedy by Beth Henley. The play is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. This warm-hearted play teems with humanity and humor as it follows the plight of three sisters from Mississippi, betrayed by their own passions. The New York Post stated, “It would be a crime for anyone interested in theatre not to see this play.”
Crimes of the Heart will run October 12th at 8:00 p.m., October 13th at 8:30 p.m., and October 14th at 8:00 p.m. Cost for admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for non-Concord students. Concord faculty, staff, and students are admitted free. This play is not recommended for students under the age of 15 due to adult situations and language.
