$1,000 Grant to Support Athens-Concord Town Social

ATHENS, W.Va. – West Virginia Parkways Economic Development and Tourism Authority Commissioner Dr. Joseph F. Marsh presented a grant of $1,000 to the Athens-Concord Town Social Committee.

“Grants such as this one fulfills part of the mission of the authority, which was charged by the West Virginia Legislature to assist in the development and expansion of tourism in the region adjacent to the Turnpike. We are happy to support this annual event that brings several hundred people, including many former residents from out-of-state back to Mercer County for an afternoon of fun, fellowship and good food.”

Dr. Joseph F. Marsh

“It is important to note,” Marsh continued, “that the money available for such projects comes only from concession revenues generated by food and fuel sales at the Travel Plaza facilities along the Turnpike and not from toll revenues or tax dollars.”

“The grant will be used by the committee to help with major expenses such as tents, public address systems, banners and other promotional items. We appreciate the generosity of the Parkways Authority.”

Dale Geiger, Town Social Committee Chairperson
