
ATHENS, W.Va. – The 14th Annual Town Social will be held Sunday, August 13th, on the Concord College campus from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Town Social Planning Committee expects from 600 to 800 local residents and visitors to show up for the free food and fun.
The Town Social Committee has announced that Murrel Winfree will be the recipient of the Elder Citizen Award. She was born near Oak Hill and lived most of her life in the Charleston area prior to moving to Athens. She has lived in Athens since 1980.
FREE Carillon Concert: August 19th
A free concert will be held at Concord College on Saturday, August 19th, at 7:00 p.m. The one-hour carillon recital will include familiar hymns, folk melodies, classical selections, and a special group of three songs about trains, I’ve Been Working on the Railroad, Chattanooga Choo Choo and On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe. The tunes have been specially arranged for the carillon on the Athens campus.
This carillon concert is sponsored by a special gift from Dr. and Mrs. Richard V. Lilly of Fort Myers, Fla., former residents of Athens.
