
ATHENS, W.Va. – Banjo pickin’, bluegrass singin’, fun-lovin’ entertainers have volunteered to entertain this year’s guests at the 14th Annual Athens-Concord town social. The Town Social will be held Sunday, August 13th, 2000 on the Concord College campus from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Town Social Planning Committee expects from 600 to 800 local residents and visitors to show up for the free food and fun.
Entertainers Known in This Area
Entertainment Committee Chairman Anne O’Sullivan reported that Joe Lively, an Athens resident, will serve as emcee for the social. Bands who will perform include: Across the Miles, headed up by Morgan and Rose Richardson from Surveyor in Raleigh County; Ed Hartman and his band from Athens; and The Homeless Band, headed up by Adam Cox and Chris Cavendish from Athens.

The Town of Athens and Concord College jointly plan the social, which is traditionally held on the second Sunday of each August. The goal of the Town Social is to provide an opportunity for residents of the Town of Athens and surrounding areas, the Concord community and visitors to socialize in a small-town setting.
